The problem is people think that only heartbreak and rejections can make a great artist. Whereas they forget the most important thing that is imagination.

It is in part related to early modern ideas of genius and in particular Northern Europe’s desire to present itself as a people of great genius.
Europe has an issue with it’s climate, genius requires a mind that has dry wit, this needs a warm dry climate, like ancient Greece. Northern Europe is cold and wet, the only mind such a climate can produce is melancholic and unreasonable.
To get round the issue it re-orders medical knowledge and comes up with a new form of melancholia, white melancholia (new)/ black melancholia (old traditional form).
White melancholia allows for the idea of European genius. In order for genius to exist in early modern Europe it has to maintain a relationship with sorrow.

Absolutely correct ! Art can help in healing for sure but any pain or heart break is unnecessary for being an artist
